They do not give a complete invite flow, host migration rule, connection requirement, public matchmaking rule or difficulty-scaling formula. “Drop-in/drop-out” describes the intended flexibility of the online model; it is not evidence for every network edge case. What travels between worlds
The Steam description makes an important distinction: a hero’s level, equipment, inventory, spells and personal progression travel between worlds. Story progress, recruited allies and buildings remain tied to each world. This is the strongest verified planning rule for a group: your character can retain personal growth while a host world keeps its own shared state.
The official wording does not define whether guests can place or remove buildings, how every quest reward resolves, whether world settings are shared or what happens during a disconnect.
